Welcome! This is a storytelling guide for a project to have you write a little story from some picture or a small group of pictures you already own. Most of us could tell any number of stories from the pictures hanging on our walls, or gracing our mantels and bookshelves. Opening our albums, we have whole novels and films about lives lived or the details of the important events in our lives. Here we are looking for a selection of one to three photographs, and a little story, one to be written in a single sitting, read once to a listener and touched up for sharing with an audience of strangers on an electronic screen. Not much to it, really. Choose the image, and start writing, right. Yes, it is that easy. That is the seed of our idea. But we want to grow an apple around that seed, shiny and appetizing at a glance, but firm and filling when bitten. And most important, with a few more seeds locked inside that will invite other stories to grow as well. We want to help you tell the best story you can, and each section of this guide is meant to assist. The sections are roughly divided between advice for choosing and shaping a story, and advice on improving and editing a story. Feel free to jump around to an area that most concerns you. Good luck on your stories! |
