Internships

We currently offer four kinds of internships:

1. Archive Internship. This involves assisting our Archive Manager with basic archiving tasks such as media organization, research, file duplication, and transfer of data to archive hard drives. These interns may also assist with data entry related to the archive, maintaining workshop participant records, preparing short written descriptions of past projects for inclusion in the archive, writing descriptions of digital stories, and tagging and posting them to our Story Theater. Experience with MAC operating system and basic data management is required. Some proficiency in Filemaker Pro desired.

2. Programmatic Internship. This involves assisting relevant program staff with specific project tasks such as the development of case studies; the creation of outreach/promotional materials; marketing/PR related efforts; research work to identify/catalog resources relevant to our various program efforts; or focused work to develop new projects within specific sectors. Experience with MAC operating system and basic word processing software is required; experience with graphic design software and/or web design software desired.

3. Administrative Internship. This involves assisting our Manager of Administration with basic tasks related to the day-to-day operations of a nonprofit organization, including customer service communications online and over the phone, data entry, and business systems operation. These interns work with Google applications and Microsoft Office applications (Entourage, Word, Excel). Other tasks may include printing/assembling curriculum materials, handling incoming and outgoing mail, and providing basic support for office organization and upkeep. Experience with MAC operating system and basic word processing software is required; experience with spreadsheet software desired.

4. Post-Production Support Internship. This involves assisting our Post-Production Manager with basic tasks such as laptop and equipment maintenance for workshops, supply inventory and prep, data entry, CD/DVD burning, disc labeling, packaging/mailing, video compression/file exporting, data backup and basic support around the office. These interns may also have the opportunity to assist at standard and/or customized digital storytelling workshops held at our lab in Berkeley but are not generally engaged in specific programmatic work. Proficiency with MAC and PC platforms, external hard drives and equipment care required. Experience with iDVD, Adobe Creative Suite, Flash, Final Cut Pro / Express, DVD Studio Pro, audio and/or editing software or graphic design experience is desired

We ask that interns commit to a minimum of at least one day per week (six to eight hours per day) for a minimum of twelve weeks but are happy to work with interns over much longer periods of time.

Although we do not currently have the resources to pay our interns, as you build up hours we can arrange for you to attend a Standard Digital Storytelling Workshop in exchange for your time. We can also offer college credit.

To apply, please email info@storycenter.org a cover letter indicating which of the four types of internships you are interested in and how much time you would be able to contribute. Please include your resumé.
