Standard Workshop
I came home last night lit up like a little kid that just came back from camp. I hope that at least half of the people at the workshop took away what I did. The work that the Center does is transformational. I really did feel stuck by the story, but today, I feel released from that. Not that it didn't matter or won't plague me in the middle of the night – I just have a different set of arms to wrap around it. And for that I am very grateful.
- Andria Marshall, Standard Workshop Participant
The Center for Digital Storytelling provided a safe haven to allow even the most seasoned videographers/editors to expand their craft by forcing them to deal with a topic they seldom do, themselves. The world does change when the lens we focus on others is turned upon our own experiences, and while we may return to less personal work, the effort and tears expended on this intimate project will continue to influence us for the better.
- Jim Marko, Standard Workshop participant
Our goal in the Standard Workshop is to assist participants in designing and producing a three- to five-minute digital story. Participants craft and record first-person narratives, collect still images, video, and music with which to illustrate their pieces, and are guided through computer tutorials that enable them, with facilitator support, to edit their own stories.
Workshops are held as contiguous, three-day intensives (9 am - 5 pm each day), involving eight to twelve participants. Participants are given materials prior to the workshop to assist them in preparation, including suggestions about script writing, image selection, and use of video clips.
Continuing Education Credits are available through Dominican University of California (two CEUs) or University of Colorado.
