A Story Inspired by Today

Earlier in the week, when I was thinking about this talk, and what I mainly wanted to prepare for today's chat, I thought, what I really need to do is create a story myself, and use it as a demonstration of our methodology. What a crazy idea that was, eh?

In our Cookbook, we talk about good stories all having a dramatic question that sums up the desire line of the central character. Mine was easy, what story am I going to entertain these people with on Saturday. We also say that stories can be reduced to a three part construction of desire, action, and realization. So I came up with an action for my desire line. I thought how about a story about the date I am speaking, March 25, and using the web as a source for the elements of the story to be fleshed out.

So off I went, with no particular point of view in mind, just a mission, and I looked on Yahoo for a place with historic events on given dates. Then I found this site. And correlated three events, historical- The 1911 Triangle Factory Fire, - a profound tragedy -140 young woman and girls killed when they were locked into factory that caught fire. birthday- Gloria Steinem in 1934- She's 66 today, Happy Birthday Gloria, and religious- Annunciation Day- March 25 being the begining of the Christian Calendar's marking of the change of year through the 14th Century. Finally, I knew I needed a soundtrack so I went to the HistoryChannel and found that in this day in 1973, Peace Train by the Ojay's was the number one song. I love the O'Jays so that is simple.

And here is my story, for today, March 25, 2000.
