Volunteering

Your time is one of the most valuable contributions you can give. If you have just a few hours to give or are able to commit to longer-term volunteering, we want to hear from you.  

Volunteers commit to a minimum of one day per week, for a minimum of three months, but shorter, project-specific placements may also be considered.

Administrative VOLUNTEER

This involves assisting our administrative staff with basic tasks related to the day-to-day operations of a nonprofit organization, including customer service communications online and over the phone, data entry, and business systems operation. These interns work with Google and Microsoft Office applications (Entourage, Word, Excel). Other tasks may include printing/assembling curriculum materials, handling incoming and outgoing mail, and providing basic support for office organization and upkeep. Experience with MAC operating system and basic word processing software required; experience with spreadsheet software desired.

Programmatic VOLUNTEER

This involves assisting program staff with project-related tasks such as the development of case studies; the creation of outreach/promotional materials; research work to identify/catalog resources relevant to various program efforts; or focused work to develop new projects within specific sectors. Experience with MAC operating system and basic word processing software required; experience with graphic design software and/or web design software desired.

Post-Production VOLUNTEER

This involves assisting program staff with basic technical and post-production tasks, such as laptop and other equipment maintenance; digital story editing; video compression/file exporting; CD/DVD burning, and disc labeling, packaging, and mailing. Experience with MAC and PC platforms, external hard drive use, equipment care, and Final Cut Express required; experience with graphic design software, DVD Studio Pro, iDVD, Adobe Premiere Pro/Elements, audio editing software, Dreamweaver, and/or Flash desired.

Archive VOLUNTEER

This involves assisting with basic archiving tasks such as media organization and tagging, file duplication, and materials backup. These interns may also assist with data entry related to our archive and with the preparation of short, written descriptions of digital stories for inclusion in the archive. Experience with MAC operating system, basic data management skills, and superb organizational skills required; some proficiency in Filemaker Pro and Excel desired.

Facilitation VOLUNTEER

This involves working with staff to assist at public or custom workshops. These interns set up our lab space, keep the space organized and clean during workshops, observe Story Circles, and provide hands-on technology support to workshop participants, on basic computer use, digitizing of files, story editing, etc. Opportunities to assist with script development and Story Circle facilitation may be available, depending on intern's prior experience and comfort level with narrative work and group process. Experience with MAC operating system and basic word processing software required; experience with Final Cut Express, iPhoto, Photoshop, and iDVD desired.
