Workshops

Over the last 14 years, our workshop practice has been honed and tested in a wide variety of contexts, with a diverse number of people, from the techno-savvy to the techno-phobic. Participating in a workshop is the best way to grasp our work. The sense of connection, of discovery or risk, and of reward, is profound. Here are our current workshop offerings:

The goal of the 3-day Basic Workshop is to design and produce a 3-5 minute digital story. Students craft and record first-person narratives, collect still images and music with which to illustrate their pieces, and are guided through computer tutorials which enable them, with teacher support, to edit their own stories.

The 3-day Educator Workshop is designed specifically for K-12 Classroom teachers in response to the feedback we have received about the challenges of implementation following a workshop experience. It is our aim to keep the philosophy of first-person personal narratives from our regular workshop experience only in shorter form, and build in discussions around useful tools and practical application for introducing this as a classroom program for K-12 age students.

In an effort to formalize and expand upon our process of developing Digital Storytelling facilitators, we offer a week-long Train the Trainer Workshop that explores the principles, methods, software tools, and curriculum issues that experienced technology educators must consider when teaching the digital storytelling process in their own environments. Attendance in a CDS Basic or Educator workshop is a pre-requisite for this workshop.

The University of Colorado at Denver in conjunction with The Center for Digital Storytelling is offering a series of three CU-transcripted, graduate-level courses to develop the skills necessary to produce digital stories as well as facilitate their use across a wide range of educational and work settings. The Certificate Program consists of our Basic 3-day Workshop, an online, semester-long course, and our Train the Trainers week-long workshop.
