Storycenter online workshops: zoom guidelines

We know that an online workshop does not provide the same intimacy and sense of connection as an in-person workshop. We offer these guidelines to help you feel at ease and better prepared

Getting Ready

● Please read our Storytelling Agreements

● Download and install the free Zoom software by clicking here

● You will need a reliable internet connection.

● We recommend a desktop or laptop computer with a web camera and microphone.

● If you use a tablet or smartphone, please prop it up so that it remains stationary.

● We suggest a headset (earbuds with a microphone) for better sound and more privacy.

● Choose a quiet space where you can sit comfortably and will not be disturbed.

● Avoid sitting with your back to a bright light or uncovered window.

Joining

● Click the link provided in your workshop preparation email.

● Test your mic when prompted by Zoom. If you hear an echo, please use headphones.

● Close programs or apps on your device that may issue notifications or alerts.

● If your camera works, we recommend that you turn it on so participants can make visual contact and to avoid feeling they are being “observed,” which can undermine safety.

● Please be on time. Your participation impacts the group process as a whole.

● If you need more information, here are Zoom’s instructions for Joining a meeting

● Mute your microphone when you are not speaking.

● Please only use the chatbox when requested. Your meeting chat is personal to you. It includes chat threads that appeared to EVERYONE, as well as PRIVATE chats.

● If you would like to save your chats, click on “More,” and select “Save Chats,” before the session ends.

● As a participant, you will be asked to share your thoughts and feelings and be present for others.

● It is your responsibility to keep all information shared confidential and to demonstrate respect for everyone present on the session.

● You should not participate in a public space or where others not involved the workshop can see or hear the group activity.
