Intro to Remote Recording & Editing Interviews for Podcasting

Have you ever listened to a podcast where the conversation is just riveting?

That is what this workshop is about. 

Over four sessions, we will hone one-on-one interview skills and teach the basics of audio editing. At the end of the four sessions, you will have a 4-5 minute interview-style episode that has style and substance.

This is the first workshop in a series of four. It is meant to build the skills necessary to create a strong and compelling podcast.

This workshop requires attendance at four 2-hour sessions, held on Mondays from October 6, 2025, to October 27, 2025. Each session begins at 11am Pacific Time/ 2pm Eastern Time.

Optional 1:1 meetings with instructors are available.

THIS WORKSHOP INCLUDES

  • Interviewing for character and story 

  • Recording remote interviews

  • Learn the editing program Descript

  • Recording an intro and outro

  • Incorporating music

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

This workshop is designed for individuals or organizations interested in producing a podcast heavily informed by storytelling techniques, participating in a creative group process, and learning to conceptualize a podcast.

SPECIAL NOTES

  • To participate, you will need a smartphone and a computer (Mac or PC) with an updated web browser. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email. Before the workshop starts, we will send you instructions about how to prepare for the workshop.

  • You will be working with Descript.com and Hindenburg software

FacilitatorS

Bojan Fürst is a geographer, photographer, facilitator, writer, and radio producer based in St. John’s, on the island of Newfoundland on the very edge of Canada. He is the former host and producer of Rural Routes, Canada’s most popular podcast on rural issues. His work has been published in magazines and newspapers across Canada, UK, and his native Croatia. His radio documentaries aired on Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s (CBC) national and regional shows. He also works with academic organizations and individual researchers to help them develop ways to effectively put their research into action.

Tamekia Jackson is an educator, performer, and storyteller. With a foundation in theatre and interdisciplinary studies, she specializes in developing and facilitating transformative programs that empower communities through storytelling, creative expression, and experiential learning.

Tamekia has worked as a storytelling coach with The Moth, where she helped students find and shape stories for performance. She devised performances with students and worked with teachers to integrate arts education techniques into curricula. Tamekia was also a StoryCorps Facilitator, where she recorded oral histories with people and organizations and helped produce several stories. She is currently Co-Director of StoryCenter and loves facilitating storymaking and connections.
