Multi-media personal narrative making provides a powerful framework for processing information and experiences, building meaningful connections, and expressing creativity. But how can this approach enhance learning in the classroom?
In this experiential workshop, 6th-12th grade teachers explore StoryCenter’s longstanding practice of narrative and participatory media-making as an engaging form of knowledge-building and a rich way for students to demonstrate understanding. StoryCenter’s method centers community-building, structured collaboration, and reflection on each storyteller's personal connection to a variety of content areas.
Through hands-on activities and guided exploration, educators will develop and workshop practical ideas for integrating this approach to digital storytelling across grade levels and subject areas.
Participants will learn how to use digital storytelling to:
Strengthen critical thinking
Support inquiry-driven learning
Identify personal and meaningful connections to content
Foster reflection and metacognition
Improve written and verbal communication skills
Deepen analysis of texts, concepts, and themes
Build media literacy and create original media content
