The integration of mobile documentary media production with Geographical Information System (GIS) storymapping projects are a critical new literacy for students and citizens. With increasingly better quality cameras on our smart phones, we now carry a mobile film studio in our pockets. With ESRI’s Storymaps technologies, teaching students or community members how to to create beautiful web-based projects that integrate all kinds of maps and media, has become an accessible process.
With the Stories-in-Motion 10 week course, StoryCenter’s Joe Lambert returns to two of his favorite projects of the last 20 years, storytelling for mobile devices, and story-mapping.org, his effort to geo-locate stories about place, change, and resistance. In this course, participants will reflect on changes in their immediate communities to create stories using app-based photography and video on iOS and Android devices, edit in WeVideo, and explore the ArcGIS StoryMaps and Google Maps softwares to create multi-point story map documentary projects.
This workshop requires attendance at ten online sessions on consecutive Wednesdays from July 9 through Sept 10, 2025. Each session is two hours and begins at 10am Pacific Time.
Registration closes a week prior, or when registration is at capacity. For questions, please email Joe Lambert at workshop@storycenter.com.
